  1. I had a great link I wanted to add to the 19th wife blog post....ABC News
had a report about the polygamist family.

    http://abcnews.go.com/US/sister-wives-polygamist-plans-suit-challenge-polygamy-law/story?id=14051846

    Says their lawyer:

"Right now we live in a bizarre situation where everyone agrees that you
can have multiple lovers, you can have children by those lovers, you can
even have adulterous lovers and you're protected as a citizen of the
United States," Turley told ABC News. "But the minute you tell them
privately that you view them as your spiritual spouses the state comes in
    and prosecutes you."

I think that's what Jean was saying.

  2. Good Historical Fiction read. Lots of good information about the Mormon church and it's beginnings. By the time I finished the book I felt that Mormons should have the religious freedoms afforded to everybody else in this country

  3. 19th Wife-Book Group members discussed the treatment of women and concluded that historically the conditions of women in other religions were similar. Also most members decided that freedom of religion should protect the private lives and practices of religious groups and public policy should not interfere.

  4. Reading this book made me very angry. To think in this day and age there are women who put up with slave treatment without any curiosity to find any better way of life for themselves really frosts me.

  5. 19th Wife
This book consists of 2 separate stories about plural marriage. One story is about the historical roots of the Mormon religion in the 19th century. The second is a present day murder mystery that challenges faith.
